CADDC Brings the Rhythm of West Africa to the 2026 #TeachingInColor Summit

CADDC was honored to be part of the 2026 #TeachingInColor Summit, hosted by the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Held under the theme “Sankofa: Looking Back to the Future,” the fifth annual Summit brought together educators of color from across North Carolina to celebrate their contributions, share knowledge, and envision a more equitable future. (CREED⁠)

As part of the day’s culture-rich programming, the Charlotte African Drum and Dance Collective shared the joy, energy, and tradition of West African drum and dance through a live performance. Our participation offered Summit attendees an opportunity to experience African culture not simply as an audience, but through the powerful connection of rhythm, movement, and community.

For CADDC, opportunities like this are at the heart of our mission: sharing culture and building community through traditional West African drum and dance. 

We are grateful to CREED for inviting CADDC to contribute to such a meaningful gathering and for creating space to celebrate the cultural traditions that connect us to our past while inspiring us to move boldly into the future.

Sankofa reminds us that the past is not behind us, it is part of what carries us forward.
