A development professional and advocate for the performing arts, Crystal Godbolt brings her expertise in grants administration and her love of West African dance to strengthen cultural engagement in the Carolinas.

HER Story

Crystal Godbolt, MPA is an accomplished professional in development operations and grants administration and is passionate about the performing arts. Originally from Queens, NY, Crystal began her dance training at the Gloria Jackson Dance Studio in Jamaica, Queens, where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, and West African dance. Her early exposure to these diverse dance styles ignited a lifelong love for movement and cultural expression.

While pursuing her undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Crystal served as Vice President of the university’s West African dance troupe. This leadership role reflected a commitment to celebrating cultural heritage and building community through the arts. She later earned a Master of Public Administration from New York University, equipping her with the tools to make a meaningful impact in her professional and artistic endeavors.

Since relocating to Charlotte, NC in 2009 with her husband and two children, Crystal joined Shae Movement African Arts, where she continued to explore her passion for West African dance.

Currently, Crystal works at a private foundation where she leverages her professional skills to support initiatives that enrich communities in the Carolinas. She also serves as a dance instructor and board member of the Charlotte African Drum and Dance Collective (CADDC). Her unique blend of administrative acumen and artistic focus positions her as a dynamic advocate for cultural arts and community engagement.
